Wisdom Wednesday: The Dream Day Discovery Exercise

So many people find themselves caught up in the busyness of life, working tirelessly without a clear understanding of their aspirations or the purpose behind their efforts.

They lack a clear vision. They can’t see the bigger picture and eventually even question why we dedicate ourselves so fervently to certain things, like our careers.

We are all created uniquely and have different desires, so it’s important to think about what kind of future truly motivates and invigorates us?

Creating a blueprint for your ideal lifestyle can have a profound impact, providing you with clarity of your vision and confidence in your purpose.

Here’s an exercise that can play a key role in helping you. I call it The Dream Day Discovery™.

Grab a pen and paper, and respond to the following questions:

Envisioning your perfect average day: Transport yourself to the spring of 2028. How does your life appear in this imagined future?

Here are some specific questions to ask yourself to get going:

  • What time do you wake up?
  • Where do you live?
  • If you don’t wake up at home, where is home?
  • Do you have a morning routine? If so, what does your morning routine consist of?
  • How is your overall health?
  • What time do you start working? Describe your work responsibilities.
  • What truly excites you?
  • What types of activities do you do throughout the day? How long are you spending on each activity?
  • What do you eat and drink throughout the day?
  • Are you alone or with other people? If so, who? What do you do together?
  • Do you do any exercise, if so, why type and for how long?
  • How do you spend your evenings?
  • Do you have an evening routine? If so, what does it consist of?
  • What time do you go to bed?
  • What thoughts occupy your mind as you drift off to sleep?

Now, outline your activities throughout the day, in 30 minute increments.

“A life not evaluated is a life lacking significance, meaning, and purpose.” -Allan Blain

Dream without limits:

Take your time, close your eyes, take deep breaths, open your eyes, and begin writing from the depths of your heart. This endeavor may prove to be one of the most significant actions you will ever take.

If you have successfully undertaken this exercise, you should feel a surge of amazement and excitement.

Once you have finished, save the details on your phone, revisit them frequently, and observe what unfolds.

The transformation that occurs over time can be nothing short of fascinating.
