Discover True Confidence and Unwavering Worth
Jun 07, 2023In our society today we hear a lot about self…self-love, self-care, self-esteem, etc., and we are told that is the answer to our confidence, emotional and mental problems, and feelings of self-worth.
Although cultivating a healthy self-confidence is important, it's imperative to understand where our worth, value, uniqueness and confidence comes from, and ensure it is based on God's unchanging Word rather than our ever changing emotions.
Here's the truth of the matter.
If we buy into the self-love philosophy that is so prevalent today, we are choosing to build our lives, our relationships and our businesses upon shaky ground.
Despite what culture is telling us to do, self absorption leads to misery.
Jesus knew this so he gave us clear success principles to live by in order to ensure that we don’t fall into this pit.
He said that our primary focus should be to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30)
He went on to say that our secondary focus is to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:31)
He never mentioned that we should love ourselves. It is assumed that we innately care for our own bodies.
We are told however, to love others with equal care and concern as we have for our own self interests.
It is important to see ourselves not merely as the world encourages us to, but as God sees us.
In Scripture, we are constantly reminded of our worth and value.
Psalm 139:14 says, "I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well."
This affirmation of our inherent worth, creates a confidence that doesn't originate from self but from a recognition of God's love for us.
Seeing ourselves as God sees us carries tremendous benefits. It provides us a deep-seated, unwavering confidence that is immune to the fickleness of societal standards.
It serves as a constant reminder that our value doesn't fluctuate with our performance, status, or appearance. Rather, it is grounded in God's unchanging love and acceptance.
Furthermore, when we embrace God's promises about us, it shapes the trajectory of our lives. It encourages us to rise above challenges, fosters a resilient spirit, and instills in us a deep sense of purpose.
Knowing and believing what God says about us acts as an anchor for our souls. In the turbulent sea of life, it provides stability, comfort, and assurance.
Jeremiah 29:11, one of my favorite passages, says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Clinging to this truth allows us to experience peace amidst uncertainty, and strength amidst weakness.
Let’s commit to seeing ourselves as God sees us. Let's seek to internalize His promises and strive to live out our God-given identity both in our personal and professional lives.
I'm confident that as we do so, we'll witness a remarkable positive impact in our lives and the lives of those around us.
Let’s let God know that we want less of us and more of Him, as we seek to love Him and others much more than our own self seeking desires.
I trust it will bring balance and strength to our emotions, our confidence, our worth, and all other areas of our life.
