Choose Courage Over Fear

Do you ever feel that your own insecurity and fear is holding you back from doing what you really desire to do?

Or possibly that your fear is keeping you from becoming what you truly desire to become in any area of life?

Maybe it is fear of failure that paralyzes you, or more often for most I believe, it’s the fear of what others may think if we do something we really want to do and embarrass ourselves in the process.

Can you relate to any of this? I sure can!

I hope this Wisdom Wednesday is a great encouragement to you today to face your fears head on, exercise courage, step outside of your comfort zone, and develop new capabilities and greater confidence.

Have you ever thought about the relationship between courage and fear?

I’m sure we all want to live courageously, and we certainly all have various fears.

There is nobody that does not face fear in life. Nobody!

The difference between those who will overcome their fear and those who won’t is the ability to exercise courage.

It’s comforting to me to always be mindful that in the absence of fear, no courage is ever required.

Said another way, it is impossible to be courageous if we have no fear to face.

If we do something that does not require walking through some sort of fear, then no courage was really required, was it?

Think about that for a moment.

And if we are living a life void of courage, we are likely living a fairly unchallenging, uneventful, unexciting, growthless and unrewarding life.

We are likely not investing our God-given gifts, talents, abilities and opportunities placed before us well if we are choosing comfort over courage.

To be courageous, we must acknowledge our fear, face it head on, and choose to exercise courage by doing what we know we need to do despite the fear we feel.

As we make this choice (yes, we must acknowledge that it is a choice to act in spite of fear), we will build our courage “muscles” and develop new capabilities in the process.

I encourage you to look fear straight in the eyes, acknowledge it for what it is (F.alse E.vidence A.ppearing R.eal), and punch fear in the face by exercising courage in spite of your fear; doing the thing that fear has kept you from doing until now.

By doing so, your courage muscles will grow, your capabilities will increase, and your confidence will build, just like your muscles.

Remember, without fear there can be no courage.

Let’s all exercise courage by facing our fears.

Now let’s go!
