Biblical Success Principle #3 (of 7)
Mar 29, 2023Hey there, ready to take a look at biblical success principle #3 of the 7 biblical principles that I shared on my podcast a few weeks ago, regarding how you should work for maximum success?
If you would like to hear that podcast episode, you can listen (and follow the show if you’d like) here: Apple | Spotify | Audible.
And if you missed the last two week’s Wisdom Weekly emails that included biblical success principles #1 and #2, you can access all previous Wisdom Wednesdays here on my blog.
Now let's get right to biblical success principle #3 and discover how to work.
Colossians 3:23, 24 tells us “Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people, knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance.”
This success principle has a couple facets to it.
The first takeaway I see here is that we are not going to be truly successful if we are overly concerned about pleasing people.
For far too long, I cared too much about what others would think about me and this held me back from showing up as my authentic self.
Does this ever happen to you?
We are told here that we are not to be a people pleaser, and that we should do our work whole-heartily for the Lord, rather than simply to please other people and get their approval.
God’s approval for the work we do is all we need!
Pleasing people or even enjoying positive feedback from them is not inherently wrong, in and of itself, but the big second takeaway here is that we should desire to please God much more than we enjoy pleasing people or receiving their positive feedback.
My podcast, Life’s Hard, Succeed Anyway, is an example of this for me.
The podcast doesn’t advertise anything, sell anything or promote anything, but I do it because I felt like God wanted me to do it to reach and encourage more people with the needed message that others can also succeed despite the obstacles and adversity they face in life, personally or professionally.
So…as much as I want to serve others, encourage others, help others, and make them happy (aka - please them) with my podcast and other content I create, my ultimate desire is to do my work whole-heartily for the Lord rather than seeking to just please others and gain their approval.
Yes, I can certainly slip into people pleasing mode if I am not careful and need this reminder and God’s help daily to put Him first in all of my life’s work.
How about you?
Is this reminder helpful and encouraging?
When we follow the success principles God has freely shared with us in His Word, like this one we just read in Colossians, our work becomes more meaningful and rewarding, and typically comes with greater rewards, both now and eternally.
Tune in next week to discover biblical success principle #4.
